Regular attendance and punctuality are essential to a student’s progress and to the formation of good habits. Students in Kindergarten through 8th grade are due to school by 8am and students in PreK are due to school at 8:30am.
For the safety of the children, parents must call the school office before 8:00am if a student will be absent that day. If you leave a message you must include the student's first and last name, grade and reason for absence.
In the case of absence, homework can always be checked through the teacher’s website or you may contact the teacher before the start of the school day to make homework arrangements for that day.
Students in grades 3 through 8 who are late more than 3 times in a trimester will be issued a detention. Detention is served on Tuesdays from 3:00-3:30pm. A notice will be sent home with your child prior to the scheduled detention with details.
Absences
Upon returning to school the student must present an absence note signed by the parent/guardian explaining the reason for absence as required by the Upper Darby Township School District. These notes are kept on file for one year. Three or more absences require a physician's note for re-admission to school. In cases of communicable diseases a physician’s note is also required. For safety reasons, if your child contracts a communicable disease such as, strep, measles, lice, etc. please call and report the case to the school office. All personal information remains confidential according to the guidelines of the school district.
Appointments During the School Day
Parents must email the teacher AND school office before the start of the school day if your child is eaving early for an appointment. In order to reduce disruptions and maintain the structure of the learning environment parents are asked to limit special appointments during normal school hours. If a child is picked up prior to normal dismissal time he or she may not return to school until the following school day.
When students are absent or leaving early they must make arrangements with their respective teachers regarding making up missed work. This work needs to be made up within two days of the absence unless it is an extended absence. In this case special arrangements will be made with the teachers.
