Hi Everyone!
Fall is in the air. Brrrr! Have no fear, I won’t be going into hibernation until Christmas.
Once again, I had a great week at school. I must say, the students are doing a lot of work. I saw a lot of tests being taken, homework being checked, and class participation. I didn’t realize how studious these kids are.
There is always time for a little fun, though.
In Ms. Zimmerman’s 6th Grade music class, I saw some folk dancing going on. I am really happy that music is one of the Specials here. All of the students from PreK-4 to 8th grade participate in music class. Once students are in 4th grade, they can even join the band. These kids are dedicated. The beginner members come to practice at 7 a.m. and the older members come at 7:30. They have one 30 minute lesson during the school day in the Wright Center. I heard them practicing this morning. Sounding good, everyone!
While I was visiting the Wright Center, I saw a chart with pictures of chocolate chip cookies and chocolate cake. I think voting for a favorite treat was going on. Any guesses on which one won? Cookies by a landslide. The PreK-3 children sure have a yummy way to learn to count and compare fewer/more.
In 4th Grade, there is a really cool Leaf Exchange Project happening with schools all over the country. The St. Bernie’s students collected a leaf, identified it, wrote a paragraph about it and then send them in. Others schools do the same and then we receive leaves and letters from all around. They’ve gotten a leaf from Washington State, Ohio, and a letter about desert plants from Arizona. Here are a couple of pictures I took.
The 4th Grade has another awesome project in the works: they are participating in an online project called the Monster Exchange. It is an ELA writing and tech project. Students draw a fun, scary, or silly monster picture then write the directions on how to draw it. They send only the directions to a school in California where those students try to draw the monster described based on the directions provided by the student. I’ll see if I can’t get my paws on some of the monster drawings to share.
The Kindergarteners got to go on a field trip to see “Rapunzel” – they were so excited – especially about riding on a school bus! I wasn’t there, but I heard they represented our school very well (naturally!).
Tonight (Friday) is a busy night after school. The Varsity Soccer Team is playing in the Championship Game – Go Bernies! And there is a “Ladies’ Night” in O’Brien Hall. Too bad bears aren’t included, but I hear it’s going to be a lot of fun. Maybe I’ll peek in the window and report back next week…
Have a great weekend!
