Hi Friends!
Not that anyone is counting, but guess what? There are only 16 days, 3 hours, and 36 minutes until Spring! I for one am tired of feeling like a SnowBear…
Bad weather and 112 snow days aside, St. Bernadette’s has been a flutter with activity.
It’s hard to imagine topping all of the activities that happened for Catholic Schools Week (for a recap, visit the SmileBox Principal Glennon created), but our teachers and students did many amazing things in February. Here are some highlights:
The Winter Olympics Bahm, bahm, bahm, bahm, da bahm, bahm
Mrs. Wallace created a week of spectacular events. The gym was transformed into an Olympic Center wonderland. Students were divided into teams of different countries and competed in Alpine Skiing, Bobsledding, Speed Skating, Snowboarding, and Ski Jumping. Lots of fanfare and fun (and packing peanuts)! Some of the upper grades even made T-Shirts for their teams. Contestants seemed to enjoy the Ski Jump and Bobsledding the best.
100 Days of School
I don’t know who is more clever, our Kindergarten teachers for thinking up all of the ideas to celebrate their 100th day of school, or the students (and parents) who let their imaginations soar when creating costumes to play the part of a 100-year-old. It doesn’t really matter. Kindergarteners+Gray Hair+Suspenders+Granny Glasses=Adorable! The day was filled with lots of ways to celebrate 100 days in school.
In the Classrooms
I must say, each time I roam the halls undercover, I am overwhelmed with a sense of pride in our students’ work. Our halls are filled with their projects and artistic creations. Some of the younger grades have a clothesline strung from one wall to the other to hang crafty work. Other work is displayed in the Library. For instance, the 4th Graders just completed a cool “Ocean Floor Project.” I have the inside scoop on what the upper classes are doing: I got to peek at some cool “Animoto” projects the 5th Graders have completed and the 7th and 8th Graders are reading Hamlet. “To Bear, or not to Bear…”
Like I said, there’s lots of stuff happening and I’m so glad I can report it some of it.
Your friend,
Bernie
Don’t forget: “Spring forward” is this weekend! Turn your clocks an hour ahead. Sigh.
